Granger Community Christian Church: A New Chapter Begins (Building Dedication, 1962)
In the heart of Granger, a new era dawned for the faithful when the Granger Community Christian Church dedicated its beautiful new building at 2600 West 3800 South on Sunday, September 23, 1962. This long-anticipated event marked both a spiritual and architectural milestone for the growing Protestant congregation that had previously gathered at 2284 West 3500 South—a location now occupied by the I-215 freeway on-ramp.
The church's modern and welcoming design was crafted by architect M.E. Harris Jr. of Salt Lake City. Constructed under the direction of contractor D'John De Young, the structure was purposefully built to serve the needs of the Protestant community in West Valley’s Granger area, with a vision of openness, inclusion, and growth.
The dedication services were filled with joy and reverence. Reverend Howard Johnson, the church's new pastor recently arrived from Denver, led the congregation with passion and warmth. Reverend Warren Sechler, who had founded the church in 1958 with 47 members and nurtured its growth to 120 members before moving to Burley, Idaho, returned as guest speaker to commemorate the occasion. Reverend Lloyd Bulfor, secretary of the South Idaho Missionary Society, also took part in the services.
Ministers from Protestant churches across Salt Lake and Ogden joined in fellowship, symbolizing unity and shared faith. Special music and community participation added a powerful sense of celebration to the day.
The building dedication not only consecrated a physical space but marked the continued commitment of the congregation to serve, grow, and remain a spiritual home for generations to come.
