10-Cent Ham Sandwiches
Harmons Grocery & the Legendary 10-Cent Ham Sandwiches
Long before Harmons became one of Utah’s most successful grocery chains, it was our local neighborhood store—right here in Granger. Affordable, friendly, and full of heart, Harmons was the go-to spot for bargains, staples, and most memorably… those unforgettable 10-cent ham sandwiches.
For generations of families in our community, Saturday meant one thing: The Treat of the Week. Located just past the ramp that led down into the store, this simple counter became the stuff of legend. Ham and cheese sandwiches, warm tacos with melted cheese, and friendly faces made it a weekly ritual.
Gary Z. remembers:
“It was Harmons. The weekly special was at the bottom of the ramp coming into the store. We would buy a bunch of them as our family’s ‘Treat of the Week.’”
Debbie R. shared:
“We would go every Saturday for ham sandwiches! Loved the Treat of the Week!”
Brent F. added:
“Loved them. I make some at times and flash back to those times.”
Coral M. recalled:
“My mom would make us walk the mile from our house to Harmons to get a bunch of them for our whole family!!”
Whether you were one of the kids making the walk to the store, a parent picking up a bundle for the family, or someone who still dreams of recreating that perfect ham sandwich at home—those memories are woven into the fabric of our community.
Today, Harmons has grown into a respected grocery leader across the state—but to us, it will always be the neighborhood store with the 10-cent ham sandwiches that brought smiles to so many.
Here’s to the sandwiches, the memories, and the store that’s still standing strong after more than 80 years!
