Francesco’s Italian Restaurant
Francesco’s Italian Restaurant: A Beloved Granger Tradition
For nearly half a century, Francesco’s Italian Restaurant was more than just a place to eat—it was a cherished gathering spot where memories were made, traditions were built, and community came together over the comforting aromas of garlic bread, bubbling lasagna, and crisp brick-oven pizza.
Located in Granger, later West Valley City, Francesco’s became a staple in the hearts and routines of countless residents. It wasn’t uncommon to hear patrons recite their go-to orders with reverent nostalgia. For many, it was the famous Francesco’s Combination Plate—a perfect pairing of a half-order of rich, homemade lasagna and a personal pizza—an unbeatable comfort meal. (My personal favorite, too. —Sheri)
Francesco’s boasted a diverse and inviting menu, carefully crafted to satisfy every kind of appetite. The crust was hand-rolled to order, and the pasta was made in-house—a rarity even among upscale establishments. The menu offered everything from vegetarian pizzas and Caesar salads to hearty Italian classics like veal scaloppini, chicken Oscar, and fresh fish specials every weekend.
It was more than food that brought people back—it was the feeling of being home. Francesco’s was a date night staple, a celebration spot, and the backdrop of countless family milestones. People had their first dates there, got engaged there, and later introduced their children and grandchildren to its welcoming booths and savory meals.
The care was evident in every detail: the immaculate kitchen, the scratch-made bread, the signature garlic rolls, and the warm service. Francesco’s was built on pride, tradition, and a deep commitment to quality that could be tasted in every bite.
Though the restaurant closed its doors in 2007 when its founder retired, the memory of Francesco’s continues to live on in the hearts—and tastebuds—of all who gathered there.
