Westgate: Where Brick Ranch Homes Shaped a Postwar Suburb

Westgate: A Brick Ranch Legacy in a Growing Community

Westgate, located between 3800 South and 4100 South at 4225 West, stands as one of the largest subdivisions developed during West Valley’s postwar housing boom. Laid out in 1956 with 174 lots, Westgate saw its first homes rise quickly, with 38 built that same year and 47 by 1958.

This neighborhood is notable for its mix of mid-century Ranch-style houses, many featuring attached garages and durable brick construction — a hallmark of quality and style in the 1950s. Though Westgate continued to grow beyond the historic period, these early Ranch homes remain a testament to the era’s suburban optimism and the steady westward expansion that transformed former farmlands into family neighborhoods.
