Melrose Gardens Subdivision

Melrose Gardens: A 1950s Ranch Neighborhood Postwar Ranch Homes

Melrose Gardens, established in 1950 just north of 3500 South at 3690 West, is a classic example of an early postwar Ranch-style subdivision. Of its 42 lots, 41 homes were built before 1958, reflecting the booming demand for suburban housing during that era. These houses, constructed of either brick or wood shingle siding, were modest but sturdy, designed to serve working families seeking modern comfort.

Over the years, many homes have been updated—garages enclosed for extra living space and original siding often replaced with vinyl for easier maintenance. The west side of 3690 West, where historic homes stand closest to Bangerter Highway, has been carefully surveyed due to the impact of highway development.

Today, Melrose Gardens remains a reminder of Granger’s rapid postwar expansion—where families built new lives, one brick Ranch house at a time.
