1970–2024: Hammond Toys Was There for All Our Toy & Hobby Needs

Hammond Toys at Valley Fair Mall: A Legacy

Since opening their store at Valley Fair Mall in 1970, Hammond Toys and Hobbies became a beloved fixture in the community—a place where generations of Utah families discovered the joy of play.

For 55 years Hammond Toys has been a staple toy store at the Valley Fair mall. And over seven decades in business.

Hammond Toys stood as a rare constant in an ever-changing retail landscape, outlasting not only four major malls—Cottonwood Mall, Crossroads Mall, 5 Points Mall, and Ogden City Mall (all now gone)—

It outlasted many national toy chains: Toys R Us, KB Toys, and Lionel Playworld.

Through the rise of Amazon, Walmart, and countless competitors, Hammond Toys remained true to its mission: providing personal service, expert advice, and carefully curated toys and hobbies that sparked imagination. Their commitment to the community and passion for play kept them profitable and cherished in a world of rapid change.

As of December 2024, after 55 incredible years of being in the Valley Fair Mall and 70 yrs of being in business, Hammond Toys and Hobbies has officially closed its doors. The closure is bittersweet—rooted in the reality of aging owners and the absence of successors ready to carry the torch—but it comes with profound gratitude for the decades of support from loyal customers.

“We will really miss our community and are so thankful for the opportunity to serve and learn along the way,” the Hammond family shared. “Thank you again for the memories, friendships, and joy you brought us.”

Though the store may be closing, the legacy of Hammond Toys at Valley Fair Mall will live on in the hearts of countless children and families who found wonder in its aisles.
