From Front Porch to Parking Lot: The Story of 3607 South 3600 West
3607 South 3600 West – From Homestead to Commerce
The property at 3607 South 3600 West once held a family home, typical of the modest residences that dotted the Granger community in the mid-1900s. Over time, the area shifted from quiet agricultural lanes into one of the busiest crossroads in West Valley City.
The home was eventually demolished to make way for commercial development. By the 1960s–70s, the site had become home to several well-known local businesses, including the Frostop Drive-In, a favorite gathering spot for burgers, fries, and root beer served under the iconic neon mug sign. Nearby, Thomas Time provided clock and watch services, while the Granger Post Office served as a vital hub for the growing neighborhood.
Today, the spot is occupied by the parking lot of Macey’s Grocery Store and its adjoining strip mall, a reminder of how Granger’s rural landscape steadily transformed into a retail and commercial center as West Valley City grew.
