Albina “Ann” Domichel – Serving Up Love, One Plate at a Time

The Warm Heart of Redwood Road – Ann and her Café

From the 1950s through the mid-1970s, a stretch of Redwood Road was home to one of West Valley’s most beloved gathering spots—Ann’s Café, owned and operated by Albina “Ann” Domichel and her husband, Frank. Just steps from their home at 3197 S. Redwood Road, Ann’s Café at 3201 Redwood Road became more than a place to eat—it was a place where neighbors became friends and strangers felt instantly welcome.

Born in 1919 and raised in Murray, Utah, Ann learned the value of hard work and the joy of sharing good food early in life. After marrying Frank in 1946, she poured her warmth, generosity, and incredible cooking skills into the café. Locals still recall the comforting aroma of fresh coffee, sizzling bacon, and homemade pies drifting through the door.

Ann’s personality was as memorable as her menu. She greeted each customer with a smile that made you feel like family, remembered your favorite order, and always found time for friendly conversation. Known for her hearty breakfasts, delicious lunches, and tempting desserts, Ann served up meals that satisfied both the stomach and the soul.

Her café became a fixture in the community—a place where truck drivers, shift workers, churchgoers, and families all felt at home. Even after the café closed, Ann’s spirit of kindness and hospitality lived on through the memories of those lucky enough to have been her customers. A devout Catholic and a devoted mother and grandmother, Ann’s life was defined by her generosity, her faith, and her love for the people around her.

For those who remember, the taste of Ann’s food and the warmth of her welcome remain an unforgettable part of Redwood Road’s history.
