A Warrior’s Journey, A Musician’s Heart – Todd J. Smith

A Life of Courage and Service – Todd J. Smith

It is with sadness that we share the passing of a fellow Granger High classmate, Todd Smith (Class of 1985), who passed away on June 15, 2026.

Todd lived a truly remarkable and adventurous life — one filled with service, music, courage, and unforgettable experiences.

Born in February 1967, Todd proudly served his country as a Military Police Officer, with multiple deployments during times of war, including service in Kuwait during the Iraq War. Following his military career, he continued serving others as a retired federal law enforcement officer, dedicating much of his life to protecting and helping people.

Todd was part of history in extraordinary ways. During the Iraq War, he served as the protective service agent for soldier Jessica Lynch following her dramatic rescue from behind enemy lines in Iraq. Todd stayed with her from the time she was rescued until she arrived in Germany for further surgeries and recovery, helping ensure her safety during those critical days. His role in this historic event was even featured in Newsweek magazine, where stories and photographs documented that moment in history.

Todd also played a role in military operations involving the discovery and confiscation of hidden money found concealed within the walls of one of Saddam Hussein’s palaces during the war — another remarkable chapter in a life of service and sacrifice.

But Todd’s life was not only about duty — it was also about music, friendship, and passion. He was the lead guitarist for the band Riksha, playing music on stages across the United States and sharing his love of rock, guitars, movies, adventure, and laughter with so many people along the way.

Todd was one of those unforgettable people who seemed to live many lives in one — soldier, protector, law enforcement officer, musician, adventurer, and friend.

To his family, classmates, and all who knew him, we send our love and condolences. Rest easy, Todd. Thank you for your service, your stories, your music, and the life you lived. You will be remembered.
