Estel Wright’s Legacy: The First Neighborhood That Shaped West Valley City
Wright Subdivision: The Pioneer Neighborhood of Hunter-Granger
The Wright Subdivision holds a special place in the history of the Hunter-Granger area as its very first residential development. Located just east of 3200 West on 3700 South, this modest but impactful neighborhood was established in 1948 through the vision and determination of Estel Wright.
Consisting originally of twelve lots, each was graced with a brick Minimal Traditional style house, a popular architectural design in the immediate post-World War II era. These homes were built to meet the growing demand for affordable, practical housing for returning veterans and their families, marking the beginning of a new chapter of explosive residential growth in the area.
While approximately half of the original homes have undergone additions over the years, the Wright Subdivision retains its historic significance and charm. It stands as a testament to the early days of suburban expansion in West Valley City, driven by pioneers like Estel Wright, whose efforts laid the foundation for the thriving community that followed.
Today, the Wright Subdivision is more than just a neighborhood; it’s a symbol of post-war optimism, community development, and the enduring spirit of the Hunter-Granger area.
