Valley View Swimming & Racquet Club
Address: 3950 South 4000 West, Granger, Utah
Opened: Summer 1960
Status: Operated into the late 1970s (exact closure date unknown)
In August 1960, Edward Sumner of Development Consultants, located at 3575 South 4000 West, announced the creation of a unique private recreation facility known as the Valley View Swimming & Racquet Club. Built on approximately 8 acres at 3950 South 4000 West, the development was designed to serve families in the communities of Granger, Hunter, Magna, and Kearns.
The ambitious plan included:
2 large heated swimming pools
1 large heated covered swimming pool
Tennis courts
Ice Skating in the winter
A spacious picnic and barbecue area
A pitch-and-putt golf course
Clubhouse and bathhouses
A large clubhouse to host social and recreational activities
Dining facilities
Numerous lawn games and activity areas
Year-round recreational activities
Ample parking to accommodate member families
The public enthusiasm far exceeded expectations, and that strong early membership support had helped expedite construction. As of August 1960, the pool, clubhouse, and bathhouses were already under construction and just weeks from opening.
The club operated as a private, family-centered recreational facility for many years and was well known in the area during the 1960s and 1970s. Based on anecdotal evidence, it may have closed in the late 1970s, though the exact date is still being confirmed.
