Beau Belle Health Studios: Wellness Ahead of Its Time: 1675 W 3500 S
A Health Revolution in 1958
Today, exercise bikes, gyms, and health clubs seem to be on every corner—but back in the late 1950s, Beau Belle Health Studios stood nearly alone in offering “full body conditioning” in West Valley. Their 1958 ad promised beautiful new studios for men and women with weight gaining, reducing, and conditioning programs for less than $1 a week. The “Health Bar” offered vitamins, food supplements, juices, and even health cookies—a novelty for the time.
Under the direction of Doris Hardy, Beau Belle became much more than a gym. It blended health with personal development, hosting the Doris Hardy Charm School, where students learned posture, poise, etiquette, and self-confidence alongside modern grooming and fashion. For many in Granger, it was the first local taste of what we’d now call “total wellness”—body, health, and personality combined.
