After Camp Kearns was deactivated in 1946, the vast military installation became a hub of postwar surplus.

By December 1947, more than 600 barracks and dozens of other structures were offered for sale.

Entire barracks were auctioned off, dismantled, and repurposed—many of them hauled into surrounding neighborhoods and converted into homes. If your house has an unusual rectangular shape or military-style windows, it just might be a former Camp Kearns barrack with a story of its own. May local Mink Farms or Chicken coops were once Army Barracks.
