The Mackay family home at 3975 Redwood Road was built around 1919 and stood as a notable residence in the Granger/Taylorsville area for decades. The property was owned by Eugene and Geneva Player Mackay. Eugene (1886–1966) was the great-grandson of Thomas Mackay, one of the earliest settlers to cross the Jordan River and establish a homestead in the region. Eugene spent more than 60 years as a stock grower in Wyoming, raising livestock — likely sheep — carrying forward the pioneering spirit of his family.

Geneva (1884–1974), born in Taylorsville, was the daughter of William and Louisa Player, early settlers of the Taylorsville and Bennion area. Together, Eugene and Geneva maintained a home that reflected both their heritage and their role in the community.

Today, the original Mackay home has been replaced by a small strip mall housing a beauty shop and The Native American Trading Company. The location sits directly across from the former S&M/JT Skating Rink, anchoring it in a familiar local landscape that continues to serve the neighborhood.

The Mackay home and its residents are a reminder of the pioneering families whose work, settlement, and community spirit shaped the growth of Granger and the surrounding areas in the early 20th century.
