Walgreens celebrated the grand opening of its Grill Room on July 19, 1971, offering a full menu of classic American favorites at the Valley Fair store. From 11:00 AM until closing, diners could enjoy hearty meals and freshly prepared desserts at unbeatable prices.
Highlights included T-bone steaks with Idaho baked potatoes and butter, served with a famous salad bowl, choice of dressing, garlic, a toasted roll, and a complimentary fresh strawberry shortcake for just $1.85. The menu also featured a roasted turkey dinner with dressing, gravy, whipped potatoes, hot vegetables, cranberry sauce, and a bakery-fresh roll for only $0.99.
Other favorites included chopped ham and scrambled eggs with hash browns, toast, jelly, and free orange juice for $0.59; baked Salisbury steak with onion gravy, whipped potatoes, hot vegetables, and a fresh roll for $0.95; and half a Dixie fried chicken with fluffy potatoes, coleslaw, hot vegetables, and a roll with butter for $1.49. Dessert lovers could indulge in a whole fresh strawberry pie topped with luscious whipped cream for just $0.50.
