Joe White – The Man Who Put the “Harmony” in Home: 2245 Redwood
Joe White – A Legacy Built on Hard Work and Harmony
In 1951, Joseph Richard White opened the doors of Harmony Floors and Furniture at 2245 Redwood Road, setting a new standard for quality and service on Salt Lake’s west side. A man who believed in doing things right the first time, Joe poured his energy into building a business where customers could find not only well-crafted flooring and fine furniture, but also honest advice and dependable service.
Joe’s journey to entrepreneurship began long before the showroom lights went on. Born in 1926, he grew up in Salt Lake City and learned early the value of discipline, commitment, and perseverance—lessons sharpened during his service in the U.S. Navy from 1944 to 1947, where he took part in the Pacific campaigns of Iwo Jima and Okinawa. Those same qualities would define his business career.
For more than three decades, Harmony Floors and Furniture thrived under Joe’s leadership. He was hands-on—whether selecting inventory, helping a customer find the perfect dining set, or overseeing the installation of flooring with the precision of a craftsman. Word spread quickly that Joe stood behind his work, and the store became a trusted name in homes all across the valley.
When he retired from the retail floor in 1982, Joe didn’t slow down. He shifted his focus to White Family Harmony Investments, running the business with the same dedication until his final days. His success came from more than business sense—it came from genuine care for people, whether they were customers, employees, or members of his community.
