Mark-It Wholesale Food Warehouse Opens Next to Scot Super Store in Granger
In 1968, the Thrift City stores in Granger, Murray, and Salt Lake closed after only a few years of operation. The large, modern buildings were quickly leased to new ventures, becoming the Scot Super Store and the Mark-It Wholesale Food Warehouse, continuing to serve the growing shopping needs of the valley.
The Thrift City buildings in Granger, Murray, and Salt Lake, all only a few years old and spacious, found a new life as Scot Super Stores. By 1968, the Granger location had already become a favorite shopping destination for locals. One memorable customer, Mrs. Joan Shaw of 3816 West 3240 South, made three visits to the store on Friday the 13th—hardly an unlucky day for her. During one of those visits, she received a $1,000 Monte Carlo Game Ticket! The prize, which helped complete her basement, was awarded by Store Manager Bob Adler on September 20. Mrs. Shaw’s loyalty to Scot Super Store was fueled by the selection, quality, friendly service, and guaranteed low prices. By then, hundreds of local shoppers had already enjoyed winning prizes from the Monte Carlo game at Scot’s three stores in the Salt Lake area.
Next to the Scot Super Store in Granger, the Mark-It Wholesale Food Warehouse offered shoppers a unique way to save on groceries. Located at 4091 W. 3500 S., the store promised low prices by cutting overhead costs: no fancy fixtures, no expensive advertising, no games or gimmicks, and no trading stamps. Shoppers could see prices clearly marked on each item or case and served themselves, keeping service costs low and savings high. Mark-It featured top-quality meats, fresh produce, bakery items, frozen foods, and name-brand canned goods. Membership—just $0.50 per month or $5 per year—gave customers 15–20% savings and access to extra bonus bargains. Mark-It opened its doors with a grand opening on Wednesday, December 4, 1968, right next to the popular Scot Super Store
