1956: Granger Organizes “Over-Jordan” Chapter of the Sons of Utah Pioneers

In 1956, the Granger community organized a new chapter of the Sons of Utah Pioneers, with national president Horace A. Sorensen presiding over the meeting. The group chose the name “Over-Jordan Chapter” in honor of the area's original pioneer designation.

The founding officers of the Over-Jordan Chapter were:

  • W.A. Newman – President

  • I.B. Morgan – First Vice President

  • Stanley W. Bawden – Second Vice President

  • J. Leonard Harman – Secretary-Treasurer

  • Ashael F. Eldredge – Historian

  • Edwin R. Winder – Chaplain

At the meeting, Mr. Sorensen also announced a national membership drive scheduled for October 18, noting that around 3,500 men were eligible to join the organization. The formation of the Over-Jordan Chapter reflected Granger's deep pioneer roots and the dedication of its residents to preserving that heritage.
