The VW Bug That Wasn’t a Myth

For years, it felt like one of those “classic Lancer legends”—right up there with the “mysterious elevator” that no one ever seemed to find.

A story passed down in whispers and laughter: “Didn’t someone once bring a VW Bug into the halls of Granger High?” Surely a myth… or so we thought.

But now, thanks to these photos, the truth is undeniable. The legend is real. Somehow, a full-sized Volkswagen Beetle made its way inside Granger High—carried by some very strong Lancers from the parking lot straight into the school.

No small feat, considering a VW Bug weighs roughly 1,700–1,800 pounds and stretches over 13 feet long. How it was maneuvered through the southeast entrance doors remains part of the magic, but one thing is clear: it took classic 1970s Lancer teamwork, creativity, and perseverance to pull it off.

Well, part of this history may never be fully known. Did they roll it in, carefully inch by inch through the doors? Or did a group of determined Lancers actually lift and carry the VW Bug from the parking lot into the school? The photos prove it happened—but they don’t tell us exactly how. And maybe that’s the best part. Like any great Granger High legend, the mystery lives on, fueled by imagination, teamwork, and a little 1970s bravado. However they managed it, one thing is certain: it took strength, planning, and classic Lancer spirit to make the impossible happen.
