Donetta’s Granger Snack Bar

A Beloved High School Hangout:

For over a decade, there was a place just east of Granger High School that wasn’t just about food — it was about feeling at home. The Granger Snack Bar, lovingly operated by Donetta and James Cassidy, became a treasured lunchtime refuge for hundreds of students.

Built directly across the street from the school, the Snack Bar quickly earned its place as a central gathering spot for hungry teens and loyal regulars. More than just a place to grab a bite, it was where friendships were made, crushes were confessed, and high school memories were cemented over burgers, fries, and Donetta’s famous delicacies.

Donetta had a way of making every student feel seen and cared for. Her warmth and attention turned the hustle of a quick lunch break into something comforting and familiar. The snack bar was often packed during the lunch hour — a flurry of laughter, school jackets, and the clatter of trays, all under the watchful and kind-hearted eye of Donetta herself.

Though the Granger Snack Bar has long since closed, it lives on in the hearts of the Granger High alumni who remember those simple, joyful moments. It wasn’t just about the food — it was about being part of something. A piece of the neighborhood. A shared memory.

To this day, Donetta’s name is remembered with affection and gratitude. The Granger Snack Bar may be gone, but it will always be missed by those who were lucky enough to be part of its story.
